The famous Coolangatta Gold is back for another monumental event this spring which will draw in hundreds of surf lifesavers from all over Australia.
The Coolangatta Gold became an official surf lifesaving event after taking inspiration from the popular 1984 Australian film The Coolangatta Gold. Each year this iconic event pushes surf lifesavers to their limit with two challenging distances on Coolangatta Beach. The longer course is the Coolangatta Gold in all its glory that spans 41.8km in total, comprising of a 23 kilometre ski, 2.1 kilometre run, 3.5 kilometre swim, 6.1 kilometre board, and a final 7.1 kilometre run to the finish. There’s also a shorter course which presents willing participants with a 10.5 kilometre ski, 2 kilometre swim, 3 kilometre board, and a final 5.5. kilometre run.
All ages and fitness levels are welcome to have a go at the Coolangatta Gold, which brings with it a fantastic atmosphere each spring on the Southern Gold Coast. Participants can compete individually or in a group, and enjoy a rewarding challenge as well as the opportunity to take part in one of Australia’s most prestigious annual surf lifesaving events.
If you’re not interested in participating, spectators as well as supporters are welcome to enjoy the atmosphere and watch the action unfold. Coolangatta Beach is one of the most prized beaches on the Southern Gold Coast, and with spring coming up there’s no better time to visit.
