Gold Coast Sail Paradise 2020
Sail Paradise is a regatta that will take place across the Gold Coast, featuring daily performance racing and a host of boats coming in from all over the East Coast. To be held straight after New Year’s Eve, there isn’t a better event to kickstart the summer season in Queensland.
Grand Prix yachts, cruising yachts, monohulls, multihulls and more, Bartercard Sail Paradise 2020 will attract all of the above throughout the four-day regatta, during which all can be seen just off the coast as they make their way to Southport Yacht Club Marina. Being the event host, Southport Yacht Club will deliver a full program of entertainment in between each race, involving live music, exclusive food, detailed yacht presentations and the 2020 Gill Fashion Parade.
For four days, don’t miss this annual summer regatta from January 2 to January 5.
Gold Coast Magic Millions Raceday
After Magic Millions Polo and the Gold Coast Yearling Sale, Magic Millions Raceday 2020 will pull in tens of thousands of racegoers for the biggest horse race this summer in Australia. Set to take over its staple venue, the Bundall Gold Coast Turf Club, with another full day of explosive horse racing action, this summer event isn’t to be missed if you’re looking to begin 2020 with the ultimate race day experience.
Featuring the world-famous Magic Millions 2YO Classic plus eight more feature races, Magic Millions Raceday is a thrilling day at the track with elite horses, glamorous fashion, world-class food, live entertainment and an atmosphere like no other. Make sure to be there on January 11.
Queensland Tri Series Round 5
Queensland Tri Series returns to Robina Gold Coast for Round 5 of its renowned touring triathlon series. Presenting one of its main events, the Open Water Swim, Round 5 is a must-attend spectators’ event for those who have been following since Round 1, which also took place in Robina last September.
The Open Water Swim will see the triathletes take on the most challenging event of the 2019-2020 Queensland Tri Series so far, featuring multiple distances - 500m, 1000m and 1500m - which will commence simultaneously in the afternoon. The second day of events will include Olympic, Sprint, Rackley Swimming Enticer and Kool Kids, making it a full weekend of thrilling triathlon spectator sports to soak up on January 11 and January 12.
Gold Coast Summer Swims
If you’re looking to take part in your own sports event without competition or pressure, Gold Coast Summer Swims is a just-for-fun ocean swim that will be held over two dates this summer. From Greenmount Beach to Kirra Beach, this summer swim - part of World Series Swims and presented by Engine Swim - will offer two distances, so swimmers of all capabilities can have a chance to enjoy a personal challenge.
Course options include The Summers Swim 1.25km and The Step 1.75km, both held in the morning with participants of The Step Up receiving a head start at Coolangatta before taking a turn at Greenmount Beach. Open to beginners, seasoned swimmers and first-timers aged 12 and over, Gold Coast Summer Swims is a fantastic opportunity to challenge yourself in the ocean on January 19 and February 16.
Movies Under the Stars Gold Coast
On multiple balmy evenings this summer, City of Gold Coast Movies Under the Stars will arrive in various locations with a free animated movie to watch outdoors and under the night sky. These are free to attend with onsite snacks and pre-movie kids entertainment, leaving no excuse to miss one of the showings if you’re bringing the kids along on holiday.
Locations include Palm Beach Parklands on January 18, Chinatown Southport on February 1, Woodlands Park Mudgeeraba on February 8, Ronnie Long Park Tallebudgera on February 15 and Currumbin State School on February 22, with movies involving recent animated blockbusters Toy Story 4, Ratatouille, How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World, The Lego Movie 2 and The Secret Life of Pets 2 - the perfect night out for the kids this summer.
